Plymouth Covenant Church

It is our purpose to glorify God by enjoying Him together in a community of grace as we bring and send as many as possible to Jesus!

Our denomination stepped out in faith and purchased 18 acres of pasture land in a northwest suburb of Minneapolis in 1968 for $10,000. The Northwest Conference and Church Planter Paul Johnson began home bible studies in 1974 and worship services at Oakwood Elementary School in 1976. Our present facility was built in three phases in 1980, 1986 and 2007. For many years God was faithful in and through our church as we ministered to a congregation of about 120-150 under the pastoral leadership of Robert Tenglin, David Elowson, Dan Thompson and Aaron Hardley.

In the mid-1990s, the church struggled. The doors of our church were closing when the Conference blessed us with financial relief and one more chance. Pastor Frank Riley was called and served with Pastor David Schut as catalysts for a renewed ministry and rapid growth. Our pastoral staff and programming menu expanded quickly as we began to see ourselves as a “sending church.” Individuals were sent into our neighborhoods as Kingdom representatives. Ministers were sent to other churches and communities. Pew sitters were sent to additional services on Sunday morning and evening. Pastors were sent to bless our conference by launching new and renewed programs (eg. Men and Women’s retreat). Short term mission teams were sent to the nations. In 1999, we saw that God was at work in Rockford and we joined Him in helping plant Riverwood Covenant Church.

Plymouth Covenant became a great alternative for many with its inspiring worship and intimate fellowship. People found us friendly - and they found friends -  but most importantly they found God. God caused us to grow with Him in a variety of ways: more changed lives, more families, more ministries, more staff, more services, more church plants...  He is More, and is willing to do More than we can think or imagine!
