This is Grace's Story.
Grace is six years old. She is in first grade and is missing two teeth.
Grace has two older brothers and one older sister.
The children currently live with their father.
Their father does not have a job.
He loves his children very much.
Grace loves school, but she is not doing well. She is on a behavior plan and is being tested for learning disabilities.
She struggles to sit still, to pay attention and to get along with others.
She is often sleepy.
She is often angry.
She is often sad.
She is always hungry.
Grace eats breakfast and lunch at school. Sometimes there is no food at home. Often she doesn't get supper. Sometimes she only gets a pill.
Grace's father doesn't want his children to go to bed with empty stomachs so he gives them appetite suppressants before bed. He calls them "full pills". Appetite suppressants are filled with caffeine.
Packing for the Weekend helps Grace's family and others like her. There are many others. Our communities and schools are full of hungry children. Ask yourself, could you concentrate and focus and learn well enough to pass a standardized test if you were hungry and sleep deprived? Now, what if you were only six years old.
You can help children like Grace by donating to Packing for The Weekend.
