With your support, this summer Phyllis Wheatley will explore the Mississippi River from Coon Rapids Dam to Fort Snelling and downtown St. Paul with youth from our Northside community, learning about the river's ecology, the impact of industrialization along the river within the Twin Cities Metro, and how it affects their community.

Youth will get the chance to spend time in the great outdoors and gain skills that allow them to become stewards of the land through a deeper understanding of how water systems across the U.S. are impacted by decisions made here in our communities.

Participants will unravel the story of the river and discover the cultural, environmental, and industrial factors that have shaped the river, and the way they live today.

Camp Katharine Parsons is Phyllis Wheatley's 70-year-old youth camp in Carver County, a place donated for and dedicated to outdoor equity and access to nature for youth whose life experiences are often limited to the city streets upon which they live.

With the help of supporters of our Camp Parson restoration capital campaign, we will reopen the camp and begin again to provide life-changing experiences in the outdoors for BIPOC youth — experiences that have the power to show them a world beyond that which they know, and inspire them to dream big.
