Skidsteer purchase complete!

Update posted 5 years ago

Native habitat is thriving thanks to you!

It's been one month since we kicked off our Keep Belwin Trucking campaign, and we're thrilled to share that you've helped us get almost halfway to our goal of $40,000! That's officially enough to pay off the remainder of our skidsteer purchase. On behalf of all of us here at Belwin, thank you.

Because of you, the skidsteer has been out in the field nearly every day this summer, taking down invasives with its trusty partner, the forest mower. With invasive plants out of the way, Belwin's native plants have a better chance of taking hold and creating habitat for birds, bumblebees, butterflies, foxes, turtles, bison, and so many more.

Come to Stagecoach Prairie and see for yourself. We've cleared a significant amount of invasive amur maple from the northwest corner of the prairie (see the video footage above.) The boblinks have fledged and will depart on their long journey to Argentina any day now, and the beardtoungue  (aka penstemon) and black-eyed susans (aka rudbekia) are in full bloom. All signs of a diverse and healthy prairie ecosystem!

You can still make a special gift this summer that will go miles toward maintaining Belwin's healthy ecosystems.

We still need to purchase a pickup truck to round out our fleet. Donate today to give Belwin the horsepower we need to continue maintaining healthy ecosystems right here in the Valley Creek watershed.

Big machines do big work around Belwin.

Machines like trucks, mowers and tractors help Belwin Conservancy's staff clear invasive species, haul materials and maintain trails, but our fleet is aging. We recently retired two heavy lifters at Belwin – our old skidsteer and our trusty pickup. Help us raise $40,000 for the Belwin Machinery Fund and Keep Belwin Trucking!

Thanks to an anonymous donor, your gift to the Belwin Machinery Fund will be matched, doubling your impact and unlocking up to $20,000 for our goal. With your support, we'll replace our pickup and cover the remaining cost of our new skidsteer so we can maintain healthy habitats for wildlife and people to enjoy.

About Belwin Conservancy

Nestled in the Valley Creek watershed, Belwin Conservancy protects and stewards over 1,400 acres of land in and around Afton, Minnesota, including the Lucy Winton Bell Athletic Fields. Much of our land is open to public hiking and exploration, which is important, because our mission is to inspire people's connection to the natural world. Our restoration work has resulted in the return of several native habitats and species in need of conservation, including tallgrass prairie, oak savannah and the rusty patch bumblebee. Through our 48-year partnership with St. Paul Public schools, 10,000 3rd and 5th graders visit Belwin for outdoor science education every year.
