Pack the Porches during the March Campaign of Minnesota FoodShare
Project for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud

Pay rent or buy food?

Fifteen years ago, Cynthia brought home a baby boy. A baby boy with Down Syndrome who needed oxygen masks and feeding tubes.

Because of the care her son needed, she made the tough decision to leave her job and stay home with her family. She started her own business sewing to make extra money, but her best efforts weren’t enough.

Soon, she had another tough decision to make: Pay rent or buy food?

During that time that Cynthia learned to appreciate people like you, neighbors who were willing to help her out in her struggle by sharing their resources with Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food Shelf.

Today, Cynthia’s family is doing much better. Her son is 15 and thriving. She has a job again and volunteers at Emergency Services to give back to the place that helped her.

Each March, Minnesota Food Share leads the state in a campaign to re-stock food shelves. The abundance of the holidays is gone, and the increased need of the summer is ahead.

Please consider participating in one of several ways:

  1. Donate right here, right now. A $100 gift buys $300 worth of groceries.
  2. Host a food drive among your family, friends or co-workers. We have a number of resources at
  3. Bring food or funds you collect to Pack the Porches on March 23. Visit for more information.
Thank you for your commitment to helping the hungry in our community. Families like Cynthia’s are able to see the light of hope because of your generosity.
