Cass Gilbert finished the MN State Capitol in 1905; about that time he moved his firm from St. Paul, MN to NYC where he became of the most prominent American architects of his time. Although he designed hundreds of buildings nation wide, his work is not well known today. Our mission is to promote appreciation and preservation of his work. For example, the Gilbert Society sponsored a video produced by tpt that highlights his work; the video was distributed to all school districts in MN and was broadcast on tpt. The video and accompanying educational materials are available online through the website.Gilbert designs include the Arkansas and West Virginia State Capitols, the Detroit Public Library, the Boston Public Library, numerous RR stations, the St. Louis Public Library, the US Supreme Court and the Woolworth Building. He left a legacy of residences and churches in MN, but after he left the state he concentrated on public buildings.
