Minnesota Coalition on Government Information works for transparency in government
This is the second year that the Hubbard Broadcasting Foundation generously offers MNCOGI a $5,000 matching grant to support our efforts. Your assistance now endorses our work and gets us closer to that $5,000 grant.
Democratic government is possible only if individuals have access to the information they need to hold their government accountable.
Every year, this access comes under attack from governments and organizations that view transparency as a nuisance and accountability as a problem. Every year MNCOGI, the Minnesota Coalition on Government Information, defends public access to government information from these attacks and works to expand the rights of citizens to hold their government accountable.
This year, thanks to generous donations, MNCOGI was able to:
- Inform parents and concerned citizens about their rights to information from public school districts;
- Recognize and support ordinary citizens who challenge government officials in court for hiding information from the public;
- Oppose legislation that would make it easier for Minnesota governments to deny your government data requests;
Support efforts to maintain access to inactive investigatory files in order to preserve accountability of law enforcement;
- Draw media attention to government activities that squash transparency;
Helped inform a Star Tribune series about how Minnesotans are being kept in the dark.
To maintain our independence, 100% of MNCOGI's funding comes from supporters like you and matching grants. On this Give to the Max Day, we ask for your support so we can continue fighting for the public access and transparency that leads to accountability in our government.
