Celebrating our 40th Season on the Iron Range!
The mission of Mesabi Symphony Orchestra is to keep classical music alive and thriving on the Iron Range. The musicians of MSO are committed to artistic excellence, community and lifelong learning. Our talented musicians hail from communities across the region, and range in age from teens to eighties.
The 2017-2018 season promises to be an exciting one. We will present a total of seven performances in Virginia, Hibbing, and Ely under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Benjamin Nilles. The average cost for each performance is between $5,000 and $6,000. As a community orchestra, we rely on the generosity of our musicians, audience members, foundations and local businesses to make our programs possible.
This is what our fans says about Mesabi Symphony Orchestra:
"I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to all of
the performers for offering this little gem of a concert. Once again I am
reminded of the incredible talent that northeastern Minnesota has to offer." Deborah Kleese,
"The opportunity for my students to view a live performance is invaluable. I hope MSO will continue to support and provide these types of events for the children of our area. Thank you!" Local teacher
"Thank you for the wonderful concert on Saturday. I loved
your music." Elementary school
"As someone who spent years working in the mines, I never cease to be impressed by the amount of musical talent in my back yard. I wish I could better explain the magic of going from the high explosives and pounding machinery of a mining operation and a few hours later watching the conductor raise the baton and bring that musical talent to life." Bob Tammen, financial supporter
has always been an important part of my life. The opportunity to play with this
gem of an orchestra has been a gift!" Karen McManus, MSO musician
