The Winona Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) is a day facility for adults with developmental disabilities located in Winona, MN.

The Winona County Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) is a day facility for adults with developmental disabilities in Winona, MN.  The DAC has three main areas of programming: a work program, a life skills and social recreation program, and an Exercise & PT program.

In the exercise and PT program DAC clients use exercise equipment, work out to exercise videos, ride stationary bikes and perform stretching and range of motion exercises prescribed by a doctor or physical therapist.

In the Life Skills & Social Recreation program clients work on basic life skills.  They work on everything from reading, writing and math skills to learning about things such as appropriate clothing to wear to work and whom to call in an emergency situation.  DAC clients also work on many craft projects and go on numerous outings throughout the year.  Some of the many things they do regularly are movie and pizza trips, attend concerts in the park, visit a farm to hike and have a picnic.  A favorite activity of many DAC clients is visiting and with playing with animals.

The DAC work program is twofold.  The DAC has an In-Center work program where the DAC contracts out work opportunities with numerous Winona area businesses.  The DAC typically picks up work from these businesses and then provides DAC clients with the chance to work and earn a pay check before returning the finished project to the businesses we work with.  Most of the jobs that are completed in house are packaging and light assembly projects.

The 2nd part of the DAC work program is our Community Based Employment program.  This program allows DAC clients to go out into the community to work and earn a pay check.  Most of the DAC's current community sites are of the cleaning variety.  The DAC places clients at job sites based on their skills and the job expectations.  The DAC also sends a trained job coach to observe and make sure that all the work is completed up to the standards of the various businesses we work with.
