A letter from Stuart & Suzanne, September 2017:
Is it possible to create any new art as compelling as the real life political theater we are currently experiencing? It is times like now that implore artists and our friends to step up and try to make sense of that which makes absolutely no sense. As in the iconic Marvin Gaye song, it’s incumbent on all of us to ask, “What’s Going On?”
As SPDT nears four decades of art making, we remain committed to engaging a broad spectrum of communities including students in rural and urban Minnesota locations, individuals living with life-threatening illnesses, and audiences across the U.S. and abroad. Through persistence and with decades of experience, SPDT continues to invite our participants in theaters and community settings worldwide to consider the blurred lines between the personal and the political.
As a Friend of SPDT, we invite you to support one of our two major program areas - Performance Works and Community Connections which are the very core of our mission and have garnered the company critical acclaim worldwide. The creation of new work such as last season’s MATINEE and this year’s work, Terra Incognita, as well as our acclaimed repertory, is the heart of our art making. Our Community Connections programs engage diverse populations which this year include students of all ages, healthcare professionals, medical students, senior adults, and individuals affected by cancer.
The Friends of SPDT continue to be a vital component of our annual budget while providing us with an important opportunity to stay connected to so many of you, near and far. SPDT Friends represent individuals from our past homes in New York and Columbus as well as the Twin Cities and recent touring sites. We all need friends and allies more than ever, and we hope you’ll join us this season to support our work.
Please save the date for MATINEE at The Cowles Center May 11-13, 2018!
Our heartfelt thank you,
Suzanne & Stuart
