Spout Press: Serving Weird Writers Since 1989. Help us continue to create outlandish literary culture.
Spout Press is committed to publishing and promoting the finest in contemporary experimental writing -- mentoring young writers and bringing new and/or under appreciated voices to the attention of a larger audience. Spout Press began in 1989 as Spout Magazine. Since 1997 we have expanded into book publishing, combining the spirit of the journal with a commitment to publishing on a larger scale.
Spout features local and regional writers, with an emphasis on experimental and underappreciated writers of fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. Spout Press has published the work of Howard Zinn, Hoa Nguyen, Joanna Furhman, Dessa, Ed Bok Lee, Joanna Rawson, Jim Northrup, Steph Burt, Richard Kostelanetz, Alison McGhee, Hardara Bar-Nadav, Charles Bukowski, Kirsten Dierking (Northern Oracle, 2007, and Tether, 2013), and many others.
Our newest series, Out Of Pocket, includes books by Juliet Patterson (Epilogue, 2016) and playwright Rachel Jendrzejewski (Encyclopedia, 2016) with upcoming titles by Carolyn Lee Holbrook (Earth Angels), and Brianna Johnson (The Axe Lectures). Our focus in this series is on expanding and facilitating local literary conversation in regard to experimentation, current issues, and new voices.
Spout Press is a volunteer collective — no one who works for Spout gets paid; your full donation goes toward production costs and to authors. We are committed to creating community through the arts, and to the vision of independent publishing. With your support, we can continue to publish work that is fresh and compelling (and weird) well into the future. Please help us complete our current projects, and thank you!
