Spout Press: Serving Weird Writers Since 1989. Help us continue to create outlandish literary culture.

Spout Press publishes and promotes contemporary experimental writing. We collaborate with local artists working in many art forms, mentor young writers, and hope to bring new and/or under-appreciated voices to the attention of a larger audience.

Our publications feature local and regional writers, and we’ve published the work of Hoa Nguyen, Dessa, Ed Bok Lee, Howard Zinn, Sun Yung Shin, Joanna Rawson, Jim Northrup, Steph Burt, Alison McGhee, Hadara Bar-Nadav, Kirsten Dierking, the WorkHaus Collective, and many others.

Our newest series, Out of Pocket, includes books by Juliet Patterson, Rachel Jendrzejewski, J. Otis Powell!‽, Brianna Johnson, and Carolyn Holbrook. In this series we provide space for new and established voices to expand the literary conversation regarding experimentation and current issues. Maureen Aitken's Out of Pocket collection You Would Live is slated for publication in the Spring. Our forthcoming anthology Locker Room Talk: Women in Private Spaces, edited by Michelle Filkins and Margret Aldrich, is in production and features work from Alison McGhee, Kao Kalia Yang, Leslie Adrienne Miller, Jude Nutter, Venus DeMars,Rachel Jendrzejewski and many others. Help us publish these books, and more!

Spout Press is a volunteer collective — no one who works for Spout gets paid. Your full donation goes toward production costs and to authors. We are committed to creating community through the arts, and to the vision of independent publishing. With your support, we can continue to publish work that is fresh and compelling (and weird) well into the future.
