Support a Resilient South Minneapolis
For more than 58 years, Sabathani Community Center has proudly served people of all ages and cultures in South Minneapolis. As a Black-led organization deeply rooted in this community, we are dedicated to building a brighter, healthier, and more prosperous future for all. This Give to the Max Day, we invite you to join us in sustaining and expanding our essential programs and services that serve thousands each year.
Community-Centered, Community-Driven
At Sabathani, everything we do is guided by the needs and dreams of South Minneapolis residents. Through your generous support, we can continue to bring lasting, positive change to South Minneapolis by addressing the areas that matter most:
-
Health: Improving access to health resources and enhancing overall quality of life to make South Minneapolis safer and healthier for all.
-
Wealth: Creating economic opportunities for individuals, families, and small businesses to build stability and long-term prosperity.
-
Resilience: Offering reliable support and essential services to help our community stay strong through challenges.
-
Longevity: Ensuring Sabathani remains financially sustainable and a valued place to work, volunteer, and collaborate.
2024 Impact & New Initiatives
With the support of donors like you, we are expanding our reach and launching new programs to better serve the community in 2024:
-
Expanded Food Access: Our Food Distribution Center has ramped up efforts to meet the growing need, distributing over 719,000 pounds of food this year—a 50% increase from 2023. This essential service ensures hundreds of families each week have access to nutritious food.
-
Maternal Health: This new maternal health initiative provides support to Black mothers throughout pregnancy and postpartum, offering health and wellness resources tailored to their unique needs.
-
The Root: The Black Family Foundation: Launching in December 2024, this child abuse prevention program will offer education and resources to African American families, creating safer environments for children.
-
Better Together Diabetes: Expanding on our 2023 initiative, this program provides culturally relevant support for community members managing diabetes, aiming to improve health outcomes and prevention.
-
Housing Support Services: We provide rental assistance, case management, and referrals to help households secure and maintain stable housing.
-
Community Energy Project: As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, we are installing geothermal heating and cooling systems in our center to support climate justice and green workforce development.
-
Youth & Senior Programs: Our renovated gym, thanks to support from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lynx, and US Bank, provides a revitalized space for youth programs and community wellness. We also continue to expand our senior services, offering health support, social connections, and resources to improve quality of life for our community elders.
-
Career Services: With the goal of increasing financial stability, we are offering career development resources, job training, and placement assistance to help individuals secure livable-wage jobs.
These programs are building a resilient South Minneapolis. Your support makes these efforts possible and continues to create a thriving community.
