MNCF is a coalition of individuals, groups, and communities dedicated to outdoor recreation and the conservation and ethical use of Minnesota's natural resources by all, for all, with all.
MnCF has been an advocate for the natural resources of our great state. We support the enjoyment of our outdoor places and wildlife through outreach and educational programs ensuring that the resources and outdoor traditions of states citizens will be available for future generations.
MNCF is the independent Minnesota affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation since. Our affiliation is mutually beneficial as we advocate for statewide and national conservation issues.
The Minnesota Conservation Federation is:
Uniquely Minnesotan: Since 1936, MNCF has worked specifically on conservation issues that affect Minnesota. From Warroad to Winona, if it’s happening in conservation MNCF wants to know about it. Although we are at home in the North, our direct ties to the National Wildlife Federation Affiliate network keeps us informed and connected to conservation developments nationwide. All donations made to MNCF stay in state and support our conservation work in Minnesota.
Broadly Focused: No one species, landscape, or constituency drives our work. We take a holistic view of conservation and work to address relevant issues where our work can have the greatest impact. This allows MNCF to uniquely act as a conservation coalition builder and provides the opportunity to work alongside a broad array of NGO and State partners to achieve conservation successes.
Informed by our Sporting traditions: Throughout MNCF’s history our advocacy and conservation ethic has been informed by a strong connection to hunting and fishing traditions. Today many of MNCF’s directors and supporters enjoy hunting and fishing activities alongside the paddling, foraging, photography, hiking and myriad other pursuits that bring them to Minnesota’s outdoor spaces. Our knowledge of sporting issues elevates our advocacy and engagement while our broad appreciation for outdoor recreation and conservation efforts makes MNCF an organization welcoming to all Minnesotans.
Program Highlight- Conservation Leadership development in MN
MNCF has developed two highly effective programs that welcome new anglers and hunters into the field alongside providing conservation knowledge to make them effective advocates for our shared natural resources.
1) The Conservation Leadership Academy: Introducing future natural resources leaders to hunting, fishing, and outdoor pursuits.
The Minnesota Conservation Federations Conservation Leadership Academy (CLA) is an exciting and engaging hands on experience that introduces participants to hunting, fishing, and other outdoor opportunities. In addition to these outdoor experiences participants are introduced to conservation leadership, communication, and policy concepts from conservation professionals.
Participants in the program are college students who have an interest in a natural resources major or career but have not had the chance to take part in fishing or hunting activities. Taking part in the CLA provides them with new experiences and information that will help to broaden their understanding of conservation and its connection to those who fish, hunt, and recreate outdoors.
Over the course of three overnight programs participants will enjoy time in a duck blind, drill holes in a frozen lake, and spend time in conversation with conservation professionals who expose the group to a variety of conservation career opportunities.
We strive to create a program that is welcoming and understanding of the backgrounds and values or our participants. There is no cost for a student to participate.
2) Women in Conservation Leadership: Welcoming women into the field
The MNCF Women in Conservation Leadership program combines exciting outdoor experiences along with an introduction to conservation topics of importance to Minnesotans in a supportive mentor led environment.
The WiCL cohort first gathers together to get comfortable with firearm safety and shooting before taking part in a pheasant hunt event led by members of the MNCF leadership team and other conservation driven women from Minnesota.
Women will leave this program:
-Confident in their ability to carry a firearm safely in the field.
-With a better understanding of public land access for hunting and outdoor recreation.
-Connected to a supportive cohort of conservation minded women in Minnesota.
Please help us continue our rich legacy of conservation by making a donation to MNCF today.
