Lyric Opera of the North

Founded in 2004, LOON strives to provide world-class opera performance and education in the North, for all ages in a diversity of venues and formats. It seeks to increase audience awareness of opera as an art form, and to promote collaborative projects with other regional artists and organizations.

On stage this season (LOON's 19th!), you’ll see two operas that explore first impressions and immediate connections. Speed Dating Tonight! imagines a purposeful search for connection in a nerve-wracking format. La Bohème is a love-at-first-sight story that has resonated for more than a century. In school gyms, Little LOON patrons in nearly 40 schools across the northern part of Minnesota (and to Superior, Wisconsin), will experience Opera for the Young’s adaptation of Hansel & Gretel, giving more than 10,000 students a moment to savor an art form we hope they’ll claim for a lifetime.
