35 years of saving lives through organ and tissue donation. We partner with communities, families and healthcare professionals to save and heal lives through advocacy and excellence in organ, eye and tissue donation.

A little heart makes a big difference!
Coyle was only a few months old when his parents were told he would need a lifesaving kidney transplant.
This is Coyle's story of receiving a second chance at life.

We envision a world where everyone says YES to donation.

"Coyle loves everybody. People notice him for his infectious smile and just the kind of person he is!"

Doctors found out something was wrong with Coyle's kidneys at his mother, Kayla's,  19-week ultrasound. After an emergency c-section 3 weeks early, an operation was performed to fix a blockage and Coyle's parents thought all would be well. "We didn't know until he was a few months old that he would need a kidney transplant and that was a shock. It definitely hit us hard," said Kayla.

Coyle was on the transplant waitlist for a new kidney for a year and a half until Coyle's dad, Josh, got the call while he was working at the fire station. Coyle was about to receive a lifesaving gift from a 19-year-old donor who was a match. "I just broke down in front of the guys," said Josh about receiving the call at work. "I've been a firefighter for 17 years and I've always wanted to help people. Coyle wants to be both a firefighter and a doctor when he grows up to save people 'like daddy.'"

A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE

Coyle's successful kidney transplant gave him a second chance at life.

"I didn't know much about organ donation before this journey," says Coyle's mom. "But the first thing Josh and I did was to go to the DMV and become organ donors. How can I expect someone else to help save my life or my son's life if I'm not willing to help too?"

Josh and Kayla's hopes for Coyle are that he just keeps being the "happy little boy" that he is and that he keeps sharing his story with others.

Did you know?

  • 1 donor can save and heal up to 75 lives
  • There are currently over 2,100 people waiting for a lifesaving transplant in Minnesota
  • There are currently 65 children in Minnesota on the transplant waiting list
  • 60% of those on the national waitlist represent multicultural communities (African Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanic/Latinos are 3x more likely to need a kidney transplant in their lifetime).

A little heart goes a long way...
