The Izaak Walton League is a major force in the American conservation movement. The IWLA pledges "to defend the nation's soil, air, woods, water, and wildlife."

This goal translates into activities that help Preserve the Environment and Enhance the Outdoors for the use and enjoyment of all.

The Owatonna Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is currently developing a 75-acre area of land as a Wildlife Reserve. It is available for hiking, birdwatching, and general outdoor enjoyment. It is located six miles south of Owatonna on Cty Road 45 (Cedar Ave).  It's called Woody's Reserve in honor of Elaine Wodarczak who donated the land to us following her passing.

Plans include erecting a multi-use building to house maintenance equipment. It will also serve as a meeting area for environmental classes of high school students and other groups interested in the Great Outdoors. The Scouts will be doing some camping on the grounds.

2023 has been a great year for the area.  Nearly 2 miles of trails were 'conditioned' to provide smoother and wider hiking paths. They pass through open prairie and wooded landscapes and cross a small stream in the gently sloped terrain.

Three kiosks were built from materials purchased with generous donations and have been placed along the trails. Numerous Ikes volunteered their time to construct them. They provide areas to rest and relax a bit, view the beautiful surroundings, or enjoy a picnic lunch.

You are welcome to check it out - 7920 Cty Rd 45 South.

THANK YOU in advance for your support.
