Friends of Thomas Lowry Park provides support to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board for the tender care of Thomas Lowry Park. FTLP provides funds for biannual plantings, volunteer gardening help, and other park needs.

The Friends of Thomas Lowry Park have been inspired by our namesake’s quote since our incorporation as a non-profit organization in 2008. Many people have given selflessly to this group throughout the past ten years of our history….. planting 35 trees, installing 2 urns, adding additional planting beds, expanding the irrigation system and planting many shrubs and flowers.

In February of this year, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) put forth a concept drawing that suggested filling the Seven Pools in Thomas Lowry Park with sand. The pools are almost 100 years old and are beyond being patch repaired. The Lowry Hill neighborhood disagreed with this assessment and worked to allocate neighborhood city funds for the restoration of the Seven Pools. As a result of this action, MPRB became willing to contribute funds to a replica rebuild of Seven Pools. Two-thirds of the project cost will come from public money, with Friends of Thomas Lowry Park raising the remaining one-third through private donations. Let’s work together to Save the Seven Pools for the next generation.
