MR. VERN STEVENS' DREAM:
Imagine an area of rural, southwestern Minnesota where all people have access to affordable and convenient live performing arts experiences. This was the legendary Mr. Vern Stevens’ career dream of building a non-profit, regional performing arts center in the Dawson area. Back in the 90s, you’d have to plan a special trip into the city to see arts performances – something inaccessible for most. But Stevens knew that our community deserves excellent arts experiences here, in our backyard and thus the creation of Dawson-Boyd Arts Association.
CELEBRATING 25 YEARS:
As we celebrate our 25th performing arts season, we pause to reflect on the remarkable man Stevens was and his impact on our performing arts association. Stevens wore many hats throughout the community including Lions club leadership, church organist, elementary school principal, county social services and more. All key roles in ensuring quality of life for local students and families.
“Live theater and performing arts are more than just a concert, it’s the opportunity for local youth to dream bigger, become involved in music and fulfill their full potential” states executive director Tracy Hanson. “Together, one student performance at a time, Dawson-Boyd Arts Association is helping both adults and students live an enriched life filled with arts and cultural experiences”.
GIVE TO THE MAX DAY SUPPORT:
We ask for your support during Give to the Max Day to help fund increasing artist fees and hospitality expenses associated with providing live performances and educational outreach for our youth during the school day at no cost to their families. Our goal this year is to raise money from new and previous donors to help us fund our work this year.
Will you donate to help us reach our $5,000 goal and introduce our local students to live theater and performing arts experiences? Thanks to the generous support of the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, we have a $2,500 matching grant for Give to the Max Day. Every dollar you give will be doubled until we reach our goal.
"DO-NUT FORGET" DRIVE-THROUGH:
Join us on Saturday morning, November 15 from 9-11am at Minnwest Bank’s Dawson branch for the “Do-Nut Forget” drive-through event leading up to Give to the Max Day on Thursday, November 20. Grab a bag of complimentary donuts and receive guidance on how to make an online donation if this is your first year participating. Board members will be on hand to accept your gift by cash, check or credit card or to assist you in logging into the Give to the Max Day donation page. Onsite bake sale takes place during drive-through hours.
