Fight Lung Cancer!
In 2007, a small group of Minnesota lung cancer patients, along with committed family members and their caregivers, created the first Twin Cities Lung Run/Walk to fight lung cancer. The success of this event led to the formation of A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation in 2008. Thanks to a talented and committed volunteer board of directors and the addition of professional staff in 2012, A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation has been a vehicle for change throughout Minnesota and beyond.
A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation knows that the 17.8% lung cancer survival rate will improve with increased research funding and public awareness, as well as improved patient support. Lung cancer claims more lives than breast, colon and prostate cancers combined. Nearly twice as many women die of lung cancer as breast cancer, yet lung cancer research is funded by 10-20 times less. This is an unspeakable tragedy for the 160,000 American families that lose loved ones each year to lung cancer.
What your donation will do to fight lung cancer:
- Fund research: Lack of funding drives talented young researchers away from lung cancer, despite their interest and commitment. The A Breath of Hope Research Fellowship Program funds America's finest researchers with the promise to remain devoted to the lung cancer research field.
- Support patients and families: The A Breath of Hope Ambassador Program uses dedicated volunteers who have experienced cancer firsthand to provide transportation, companionship and hope to newly diagnosed patients who face lung cancer alone or without the support they need.
- Raise awareness: Most lung cancer cases are diagnosed in stages 3 or 4 due to missed symptoms or misdiagnoses. The White Ribbon Awareness Program (WRAP) partners with individuals, businesses and healthcare systems to 'WRAP' awareness and wellness around communities. Through education and access to information, lives are saved.
