Red Bird Theatre announces our next production: A Bright Room Called Day by Tony Kushner
Red Bird Theatre is a collective of professional artists, committed to a collaborative, rigorous process and the execution of challenging provocative work.
The generosity of donors like you put us on the map. Our inaugural show, Buried Child, was named one of the top 10 productions of 2016 by Lavender Magazine.
Our 2017 production, Time to Burn, featured an ensemble of 14 actors of different races, religions, genders, ages, sexual orientations and backgrounds, and placed those living on the margins of society center stage.
We are excited to announce our next production!
A Bright Room Called Day
by Tony Kushner
Tony Kushner’s A Bright Room Called Day is set in Weimar Germany as Hitler is rising to power. Agnes, a middle-aged, middle-class actress, who has never been interested in politics, witnesses the fall of the republic and rise of fascism with a growing sense of helplessness. The play is occasionally interrupted by Zillah, a young woman from the Reagan Era battling her own sense of helplessness by learning to rise up. A Bright Room Called Day is a resonant, brutal and poetic look at the evils of complacency in the face of terror. Agnes and Zillah call out to us with urgency. Armed with the highest caliber artists, a rigorous and collaborative process and the support of donors like you, Red Bird Theatre can carry out its mission of doing challenging and provocative work that speaks to our time.
Red Bird Theatre will present A Bright Room Called Day as a reading in April, as preparation for a fully mounted production in 2019.
In the meantime, we're busy!
In January we will release this season’s CTOs – Continuing Training Opportunities for professional and student artists – workshops and classes taught by some of the Twin Cities most engaging artists.
We continue to grow our Board of Trustees and strengthen our organizational structure.
And we look forward to building our relationships with new and current supporters. Help us meet our $2500 goal on Give to the Max Day!
You make art happen – THANK YOU!
