Fortune’s Fool Theatre: introducing audiences to the unfamiliar, with an emphasis on Minnesota voices
Shiver me timbers! For TWELVE YEARS Fortune’s Fool Theatre has been dedicated to exposing Twin Cities audiences to unfamiliar theatrical works, with an emphasis on Minnesota writers. With imagination and verve, we produce world premieres and plays that are rarely performed in the Twin Cities.
Past productions have included drama --- DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET?* by Daniel Pinkerton, STOP KISS by Diana Son, and A SLIGHT ACHE by Harold Pinter; musicals --- YARRRH! THE LUSTY, BUSTY PIRATE MUSICAL*, book and lyrics by Daniel Pinkerton, music by Chris Gennaula, WHY WE LAUGH: A TEREZÍN CABARET, by Kira Obolensky, music by Craig Harris, THE LADY WITH A LAP DOG* by Daniel Pinkerton, music by Robert Elhai, adapted from the Chekhov short story; a black comedy, IN THE WHITE ROOM*, by Michael Ooms; and storytelling with live rock music, GRAND THEFT AUTOBIOGRAPHY* by Daniel Pinkerton, songs by Gary Rue. (Titles with asterisks were world premieres.)
Our mission statement is more than idle talk. Minnesota writers make up the majority of the writers produced, and we have produced five world premieres and a North American premiere. Our shows appeal to the heart and the mind, and though they often explore other times and places, they have a relevance to contemporary life. No two Fortune's Fool shows are alike, and you can be certain that our 2018 production of the little-seen and intense Caryl Churchill play THE SKRIKER will be completely different from anything we have produced so far.
