Dans Askina raising money for Springboard for the Arts
Minnesota's Only Turkish Oryantal, Romani, and Folkdance Troupe!
Cok Tesekkur Ederim (Thank you very much) for visiting our GiveMN page and for helping us bring Turkish dance and music to Minnesota - below is an outline of who we are and what we do!
Our Fall 2017 to Fall 2018 Season: We are making the Twin Cities a 'Dance Destination' for Turkish dance enthusiasts with our highly successful Masters in Minneapolis Dance Series. Our 2017-2018 season will include U.S. experts in dances from the Caucasus region, located northeast of Turkey, and the Aegean region of Turkey. Additionally, we are adding to our regular schedule of free community festival performances, collaborating with local Twin Cities Turkish musicians, and developing new choreographies and costumes.
Your Donations Help us Bring These Events to the Twin Cities:
* Weekend Dance Workshop Festivals with national & international experts in Turkish dance
* Masters in Minneapolis - Since 2012, our open rehearsals & dance classes with Turkish and Middle Eastern dance experts
* Educational presentations at schools, libraries, & corporate diversity celebrations
* Free public performances at community festivals
About Dans Askina Turkish Dance Ensemble (Dahnz Ash-kih-nah = "Love of Dance"): Formed in 2009, we are a Springboard for the Arts Incubator Project. Based in Minneapolis, we are Minnesota's only dance ensemble that exclusively studies and performs Turkish Oryantal, Romani, and Folk dances. We are adult dancers who discovered dance later in life through our local Community Education programs.
Amina Beres is our Artistic Director; Carlotta Posz is our Co-Director, and Benjamin Lamb is our Artistic Captain. Together they bring over 90 combined years of Middle Eastern dance expertise to our troupe.
Our Mission is to authentically present Turkish Oryantal, Romani, and Folkloric dances to the public through performances and educational activities.
Reviews recognizing our ‘love of the dance’, ‘high energy performances’, and ‘true representations of Turkish dance’ inspire us to bring our best to our audiences. Our costuming is purchased in Turkey, custom made for us in Turkey, or designed by our Artistic Team and constructed locally.
Why Turkish Dance? For centuries Turkey has served as the bridge between East and West, and has developed a complex and sophisticated culture of dance and musical traditions. Turkish dance and music are living art forms representing different ethnicities living together in harmony, adapting to modern influences while retaining ties to its ancient Ottoman past. We are proud to bring these rich traditional and contemporary cultural art forms to Minnesota audiences.
