Trip to Barcelona, Spain 2018
The 2017 MIAC Champion Augsburg Women's Soccer Program has announced it will be going to BARCELONA in March of 2018! The Auggies will: play three exhibition games, tour Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona, attend a La Liga (Spanish Premier League) game, visit the Picasso and Salvador Dali Museums as well as the Montserrat, one of the most important pilgramage spots in Spain. In addition to these opportunities the Auggies are planning on leading physical activities and group discussions at a foster home for children in Barcelona. In preparation for the trip the Auggies will participate in inter-cultural competency training. During the trip the Auggies will keep a reflection journal regarding the impact the trip is having on them and will complete a personal summary of the trip upon returning to the United States.
In the 2014 the Auggies had a successful trip to Nicaragua. The Auggies raised over $20,000 through soccer camps, a letter campaign, and an online auction. Since we returned from Nicaragua we have resumed conducting soccer camps and clinics to offset the cost of the trip. This is a great opportunity for our players, many of whom will be traveling abroad for the first time. Please consider donating to our trip. These are truly shape-shifting experiences for our players. As one of our players, Ali Miller, stated after we returned from Nicaragua:
"I can say for certain that our team was impacted for the better. These types of experiences are the kind of catalysts that can give a direction to people's lives, that spark a new type of gratitude, and that change the way we think about and live our lives".
