Equity Search

Support causes advancing racial equity

Organizations led by and serving Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities* face disparities in funding. In many cases, these organizations have been on the front lines of racial equity work for a long time, and this year they’ve been doing vital work in the midst of compounding crises. To help you find these causes, GiveMN has added new search filters.

If you aren't sure where to direct your generosity, but want to advance racial equity in Minnesota, GiveMN invites you to consider a gift to The Transformation Fund at Headwaters Foundation for Justice.

*Search results for causes advancing racial equity were last updated at 4:00pm April 9, 2021.

Organizations included in search results were determined using the following process:

  • All nonprofit and school leaders are invited to share that their organization is led by or primarily serving Black, Indigenous, or people of color by submitting an electronic form to be added to the search filters.
  • Organizations listed as BIPOC led responded that 50% or more of the combined senior leadership and board of directors of the organization identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color. How an organization chooses to define its senior leadership is up to the organization's discretion.
  • Organizations listed as BIPOC serving responded that 50% or more of the clients and community members served by the organization identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color.
  • GiveMN recognizes that precise demographic data may not be readily available for senior leaders, board members, clients, and community members served. Organizations were asked to respond based on the best information they have available.
  • Each organization is listed voluntarily and has consented to being included in public search results for organizations led by and/or primarily serving Black, Indigenous, or people of color.

As GiveMN works to respond to the requests of donors and pilot new tools for igniting generosity and addressing systemic inequities, we acknowledge that the results will not be perfect. Our team appreciates your understanding and partnership as we continue to listen, learn, and work to serve Minnesota organizations and donors as best we’re able. We welcome your feedback and partnership.
