Lake of the Woods Humane Society is a 100% volunteer 501c3 animal shelter in the northern most part of Minnesota. We have been a registered volunteer operated non profit for over 20 years. All donations go directly to the animals that come to us needing help, shelter and a new life.
We provide shelter and care to stray, injured, abused, and displaced companion animals. The volunteers maintain the shelter in a way that promotes kindness of animals and provides an environment that is inviting to both people and pets through quality care, professionalism, knowledge, and education.
It is very difficult to raise enough money to cover our expenses but we are dedicated to give needed medical attention and offer adoption fees that everyone can afford. Everyone should be able to adopt and feel the love of the saved. All "our adoptables" are completely vetted before finding loving forever homes including spay/neutering. On average it costs the humane society 200-300 dollars or more in veterinary costs to get a dog/cat ready for adoption. If an animal comes to us sick or injured we seek medical attention immediately and begin a treatment plan guided by veterinarians and staff. Without the generous giving of others we could not give the animals that come to us the care they need. One of our selfless volunteers has a saying when things get tough. She says "If not us who?" It gives us strength when there are so many helpless pets that need compassion, care, and shelter. The same can be said of your giving. If not you who? No matter the amount of a donation every donation is precious, needed,and appreciated. The animals thank you in advance!

Because of your support and giving we can make happy happen for so many! The animals that come to us have no where else to go and no one to be their voice. If an animal comes to us with medical needs we do not give up on them and no dog or cat is ever euthanized due to space. It is so rewarding to see one of "our adoptables" meet their forever families, making it all worth it!
