Eligibility to Receive Donations and Give to the Max Day Prizes

Nonprofit organizations and registered public schools and charter schools listed on GiveMN.org are eligible to receive donations. Only Minnesota-based organizations and schools are eligible for Give to the Max Day prizes.

Organizations that provide services in Minnesota but are registered with the IRS in another state may receive donations through GiveMN.org but are not eligible for Give to the Max Day prize grants.

Nonprofit organizations must be public charities registered under IRS Subsection 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2), 509(a)(3) or 509(a)(4) of the 501(c)(3) section or a private operating foundation to be eligible for prize grants made by GiveMN.

Prize Grant Disbursements

All Give to the Max Day prize grant winners are subject to review and approval by the GiveMN board of directors. All prize grant recipients are subject to verification and approval before grants are awarded.

Prize grants will be disbursed by The K Foundation no later than December 31, 2017, using the disbursement method established for each organization through the "View & Manage Disbursements" section of the GiveMN Administrative Area.

Matching Gifts

Organizations are responsible for offering their own dollar-for-dollar matching funds. GiveMN does not provide matching dollars on Give to the Max Day. Matching gifts raised by organizations can be promoted on GiveMN.org year-round and many organizations use them for special Give to the Max Day promotions.

Organizations that secure matching funds for Give to the Max Day 2017 will be highlighted to help donors find these great opportunities to double their generosity!

Scheduled Giving

Effective November 1, 2017, at 12:00 a.m. CT, donors may schedule their gifts through GiveMN.org to count toward Give to the Max Day. Scheduled Gifts will be transacted in real-time at the time the gift is made by the donor.

Scheduled gifts will be counted toward Give to the Max Day Leaderboards, prize incentives, and giving day totals.

Minimum Donation

The year-round minimum donation on GiveMN.org is $5.00 and it is the same on Give to the Max Day. There is no maximum donation.

Giving with Donor Advised Funds or Appreciated Assets

Give to the Max Day is now a special day for donors at all levels of generosity. For donors who prefer to make their contributions through a professionally managed donor advised fund or with appreciated assets like stock with the help of a professional advisor, GiveMN has added the opportunity to count those donations for Give to the Max Day.

Donations made with the help of a professional advisor will be not be transacted through GiveMN, but instead will be initiated by a professional advisor on behalf of a donor and the donation will be sent from the donor's fund or financial institution directly to the recipient organization.

These donations will be eligible for Give to the Max Day Golden Ticket prizes and will count toward Give to the Max Day Leaderboards when made to eligible organizations.

These donations will be recorded without any processing fees assessed by GiveMN to either the donor or the organization. Donors may incur fees from their professional advisor and organizations may incur fees related to receiving these donations.

To give with a donor advised fund or with appreciated assets, a donor must be represented by a professional advisor at a foundation or financial institution. Professional advisors can learn more and request approval to make contributions by visiting the Professional Advisors to Philanthropy page.

Fees

GiveMN is excited to provide a feature that allows donors to pitch in just a little bit more! When donors make a gift through GiveMN.org, they may choose to pay the 6.9% processing fee on behalf of an organization, ensuring that 100% of their donation goes directly to that cause! This feature is available by visiting individual organization pages by using the yellow "Find a Cause" box at the top of any GiveMN page.

This option is available year-round and on Give to the Max Day. GiveMN does not charge any sign-up or subscription fees to use GiveMN.org or to participate in Give to the Max Day.
