Economic and community development by artists, for artists, for all of us. Together we make transformation possible.
People often ask, “What is it that you
do?” Our response to that is often,
“Well, what kind of artist are you? What is it that you need? What are you
trying to accomplish?” So much of what we do is about the process of being an
artist, about making a living and a life.
What do we do? We connect artists to health care. We show artists how to use social media. We connect artists and attorneys. We have resource centers for artists. We create toolkits that connect communities to their artists to weave creativity, beauty and joy into our daily life, and make sure that artists are compensated for their efforts. We do this work out of offices in Fergus Falls and Lowertown Saint Paul, MN. That, and then some, was what we did today. We’ll do more tomorrow.
The work that we do is about process – it’s about building the relationships to make things happen. It’s about finding new ways to support artists and creativity. It’s about giving of ourselves and growing together.
A couple highlights from the last year:
· In Fergus Falls, we produced a play with PlaceBase Productions which included 50 community members as the cast, and brought 600 people to the performance.
· We launched Creative Exchange, an online platform sharing stories of artists and toolkits to spark change. We’ve shared over 50 stories of artists and 100 toolkits.
· We were selected as a MNsure outreach partner, creating videos to help navigate and connect artists to new health insurance offerings.
· We celebrated three years of Irrigate, artist-led creative placemaking that resulted in over 600 artists trained in community organizing and 15 projects along the Green Line.
We can’t do this without our process of building relationships, creating support networks, and then making things happen. Giving is an enormous part of that process, and Thursday, November 13th is Give To The Max Day. It’s a day that celebrates the process of giving, that celebrates what we can do together. Thanks for all your ongoing support, and let’s celebrate the process.
