A Vibrant Past in Transportation

In 1974, a group of seniors wanted to take classes at the local community college but did not have a way to get there and back home. Richard Graham led a group of people to solve that problem. He arranged two airport limos to get the group to and from campus and Dakota Area Resources and Transportation (DARTS) was founded. Today DARTS serves communities in Dakota County, and southern Washington County, and beyond.

DARTS services empower older adults to age in place and support caregivers throughout Dakota County. These days, DARTS helps older adults with transportation, indoor and outdoor chores, home repairs, caregiver services, volunteer opportunities, and social services. These resources create enriching connections for older adults, which improve health and provide a sense of community.

“I very much appreciate the DARTS transportation service. The drivers are wonderful.”
– Individual Rider

A Hopeful Future, A New Bus

Transportation has always been key to DARTS mission to empower older adults to live independently in Dakota County and beyond. Now, DARTS needs your help. As our community ages, the need for reliable transportation grows - which means it’s time to add an additional bus to the fleet. For Give to the Max this year, every dollar donated goes towards purchasing a bus to help MORE older adults to stay on the move!

Our 2023 Give to the Max Day fundraising goal is $20,000. Every dollar donated in November goes towards this goal. And, if we reach our goal, every dollar of our goal will be matched! That means that, if you give a gift of $100, its impact is $200.

Give to the Max and help DARTS buy that bus – we are committed to providing the best services, and an additional bus empowers us to do just that. Together, we are providing fulfilling aging journeys.

“The drivers have been nice and carried my groceries up to the 2nd floor into my apartment which is a big help since I'm handicapped… I wouldn't be able to stay in my apartment without you all.” – West St. Paul LOOP Rider

Present Life on the Road

Mike, a West St. Paul LOOP Rider

The LOOP is a community-supported weekly or bi-weekly circulator bus service with stops tailored to the older riders’ needs. Drivers pick up riders in local apartments, independent living facilities, or homes, delivering them to destinations like the grocery store, medical stops, and more.

“I look forward to Thursdays! [The] Driver is so helpful and friendly. Don't know what I would do without it.”
– Lakeville LOOP Rider
