Funds to support history students' research

 

Give to the Max Day is Thursday, November 14!  On November 14, every donation you make helps Augsburg College come in first-place among all Minnesota colleges and universities and win extra prizes. 

In the past, our senior history majors pursuing departmental honors have worked on projects that range from doing  public history at Fort Snelling to examining medieval religion. This year, we have a student studying the rise and fall of the powerful--and controversial--businessman Ferris Alexander in Minneapolis in the 1970s and 1980s.  

All of our honor students work closely with an advisor, get lots of personal attention, delve into relevant materials, and then share their work with the entire department faculty at the end of their senior year.

All of our honors students need monies to pay for student travel to archives, photocopying, book purchases, and other associated research costs. 

One of them writes: "I have been limited by financial constraints. I am a full-time student, I pay the majority of my tuition through grants and loans, and I also work 25 hours a week in order to support myself while I go to school. To put it more plainly, I don’t exactly have stacks of money lying around to help conduct my research, nor am I able to cut down on my work hours so as to focus more on my project. Even a small stipend would be incredibly helpful."

Our goal is to raise $1000 to support students like this one.  A recent history graduate has generously agreed to match every dollar we raise up to $500 so we can meet this goal!  We just need you to pitch in.  If each of you gives just a little, we can make it easier for our students to do the work they want to do.

Remember--every dollar you contribute has twice the power to help students do good work.  All of the money will go into a special, department-controlled fund to help us to continue to provide a rich experience for our students.
